2. Methodology
2.2 AI Answer Generation Process
Understanding the lifecycle of an AI answer helps us intervene at the right stages.
Step 1: Intent Recognition & Query Expansion
The user asks: "Best CRM for small business."
- AI Action: The AI analyzes the intent (Commercial Investigation).
- Expansion: It might generate sub-queries: "CRM pricing for startups," "Easy to use CRM," "HubSpot vs Zoho."
- GEO Tip: Don't just answer the main question. Anticipate and answer the sub-questions in your content headers (H2s/H3s).
Step 2: Information Retrieval (The "Search")
The AI queries its index or a search engine (like Bing or Google).
- Selection: It picks top results based on authority, relevance, and format.
- GEO Tip: Rank high in traditional SEO (top 10) to even be considered for retrieval. Use clear, concise summaries at the top of your page.
Step 3: Reading & Synthesis (The "Reasoning")
The AI "reads" the retrieved content.
- Extraction: It looks for facts, numbers, pros/cons, and specific entities.
- Cross-Verification: If Source A says "Price is $10" and Source B says "$50," the AI might check Source C or look for dates to see which is newer.
- GEO Tip: Keep your data fresh. Include "Last Updated" dates. Use clear
<table>tags for data comparison.
Step 4: Generation & Citation
The LLM writes the final response.
- Citation: Modern engines are programmed to cite their sources. They typically link to the source that provided the specific fact or statistic.
- GEO Tip: "Claimable" facts get citations. Instead of generic fluff, provide specific stats: "95% of users prefer..."
